Rev. Henry and Nemi Paasonen |
Our
pastor and his wife, Rev. Henry and Nemi Paasonen, served
most recently in the pastoral ministry of the bi-lingual Berlin
International Church (Germany). Before, they served in the
pastorate of Trinity International Church of Paris as well as
of the French-language Eglise Protestant Evangélique de La
Défense.
Pastor Henry is originally
from Finland, and Nemi was born and raised in India. They are both
multi-lingual. He spoke six languages by his teenage years, having
lived in several European countries – including France, Spain,
Germany,
Switzerland, Sweden, Finland and Hungary. He is fluent in both
English and French.
Nemi studied
nursing in England, where she then served as hospital Head Nurse
before moving to the United States and working as a Cardiac Care
R.N. in Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York City. There, she also earned a
degree in Psychology at Marymount Manhattan College.
Henry earned
three graduate degrees: Professional in Petroleum Geological
Engineering (Colorado School of Mines). Master’s in Journalism, with
thesis on “Petrodollar Recycling” (Graduate School of Journalism,
Columbia University, New York City). Master’s in Pastoral Studies
(Alliance Theological Seminary, New York). He has worked in the
fields of petroleum and mineral exploration, of science and
technology book publishing, and of corporate communications before
receiving the call to the ministry.
Their
"philosophy of ministry" calls for a lay leadership team approach to
pastoral work -- just as the New Testament church received the care
of a number of gifted leaders. They are committed to see an
international church in Strasbourg built up not just for itself but
to become a “mother church” -- giving birth to other congregations,
and giving lay men and women effective training to become leaders of
new ministries wherever they serve.
